All the containers in a single consignment of the material draws from a single batch of manufacturer shall constitute a lot. If a consignment is declared to consist of different batches of manufacture, the batches shall be marked separately and the groups of container in each batch shall constitute separate lots.

The number [n] of container to be selected from the lot shall depend upon the size [N] of the lot and shall be in accordance with table I.

The sample containers should be selected at random. In order to ensure the randomness of selection, the procedure given IS:4905-1968 may be followed.

All the devices (production & testing) are clearly identified.
Accuracy specifications are available for each test. The calibration methods are available for each testing equipment.
The calibration of equipment is made periodically & same is kept in a record.
The inspection & test area in the plants are properly identified.
